Last time in Europe was end of summer, from end of Aug to end of September for a month. All the hotels we booked were over $100 per night as an average rate since we didn’t want to be too faraway from city center.
This time we planned to stay in Europe for about 3 months and drive around, which put quite some pressure to find accommodation. One positive thing is we drive, so we have no need to stay in the center of the city, which opens more windows for further options. I tried to search websites to book hotels, but the result was not so appealing. From a TV program, we found out AirBnB, which provides a platform for people who list their own properties to travelers as B & B to earn extra cash, and for travelers to stay in local people’s home – can be private apartment, shared house or even boats… the price sometimes can be half price of the hotel in the same area. The most fascinating thing is you got to see the real local style, where local people live, where they eat, where they talk gossips.

The booking process is not that complicated, we just browsed the well designed website, like you booking hotels, you put in your travel destination, dates, etc. then you can browse the list. See the description, see the host profile and importantly, other guests’ reviews, which proved to be helpful for our decision making. Then you can send some request to the host, confirm the dates, get rid of your doubts then pay.
So far we have been travelling for almost 2 months, 80% of time we stayed at homes from AirBnB hosts & we had great experiences. Although from time to time, we might encounter some problems, such as the address was not too clear, etc. but I could testify the pros are definitely much bigger than cons. Over the time, we also learned a lot how to deal with the hosts, what questions to ask, what should prepare before arrival.

If you are planning your next trip, why not give AirBnb a go? You can also be a wonderful host to rend out your unit or room! A of of fun, for sure!
